India is a secular country which has inhibited by people of different religions. It has predominantly inhabited by Hindus, Muslims, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, and many more.

Festivals have celebrated all over the world. Festivals signifies end of dark and beginning of new chapter of life. Every festival provides message of love, respect, faith for all human beings.

Some of the prominent festivals which have celebrated with joy and excitement are Holi, Diwali, Dussehra, Krishna Janmashtami, Onam, Pongal, Buddha Jayanthi, Mahaveer Jayanti, Makar Sankranti, Nagar Panchami, Ugadi, Mysore Dussehra, Navratri, Durga puja, and many more.

Holi – HINDU FESTIVALS

It is a major festival in India. Holi is also been spread and celebrated in many European Countries. It has celebrated in Asia Countries like India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Fiji, South Africa, and others.

Holi is also popular as the “Festival of colours” and “Festival of Love”.

A form of Holi, Latmaar Holi celebrated in neighbourhood of Mathura, Uttar Pradesh State of India. The legend, mythology narrates that Lord Krishna visited his beloved Radha’s village on this day. Lord Krishna is also famous for his mischievous behaviour, activities which he do, along with his immense power and strength.

On the day he visited Radhas village he teased her and her friends due to this women of Barsana chased him away. So due to this man from Nandgoan visit Barsana every year and welcomed with Latt, Lathis, sticks of women there. Men try to shield themselves as much as they can and try to avoid the pain which they are going to get by the strikes of sticks on them.

One more interesting event is that some of the unlucky men have caught, captured by the enthusiastic women who then, those captured men to wear female clothing and dance in public. There is only one temple in entire country which has dedicated to Radha which is popular as Radha Rani Temple situated in Barsana. Lot of people gather around the temple to see Latmar Holi, when women beat up men with sticks. And this event, well associated with the devotional hymns, Bhajans, devotional songs which attributed and dedicated to Lord Krishna.

One more mythology has associated with celebration of Holi Festival; it is the story of Prahalad and his father Hiranyakashyap. And victory of devotion, faith over evil.

Mysore Dussehra – HINDU FESTIVALS

Mysore Dusserah is popular in the whole world. It attracts millions of tourists from all over the world. Today Mysore is in Karnataka State. This festival has a history of hundreds of years. This festival has celebrated from the times of Vijayanagara Empire but after the fall of this mighty great southern empire Mysore’s Wadeyar Dynasty continued this glorious and magnificent festival.

Even today after India got its independence a Royal Darbar will be set- up in the Mysore Palace during this festival, present Wadeyar king will be sited on the throne with his all royal jewelry, sword, his royal men and perform all the rituals. Moreover, on the day of Dussehra a parade will take place with golden throne, Ambaari on the back of the elephant and goddess will be kept inside of it. Also, this festival includes music, dramas, exhibitions, food delicacies and many more. Certainly, this festival is a symbol of pride and the magnificent history, tradition, and culture which people of Karnataka have preserved and kept alive in era in which many people are attracted towards western culture easily.

Ganesh Chaturthi – HINDU FESTIVALS

This festival is also popular for its various delicacies, Modak is the most favorite sweet by the Lord and dedicated to him in every house hold in India.

Undoubtedly, this is an important festival in India. This festival symbolizes the birth of Lord Ganesha. This is a 3, 5, 7, 11, 21, long festival depending upon the region it has celebrated in India. Also, this festival includes installations of idols of Lord Ganesha along with Mantapa’s. On the day of visarjan pooja idol of Lord Ganesha is visarjan in various water bodies with various musical instruments and music.

Moreover, music and various Musical Instruments are one of the main attractions of this festival. Ganesh Chaturthi is incomplete without music and delicacies.

Makar Sankranti:

It is a popular festival in the whole country. It has celebrated by different names in different parts of the country. The celebration takes place as Lohri in Punjab, Bihu in Assam, as Khichdi in Bihar, as Pongal in South Indian states, as Makar Sankranti in Karnataka. It certainly indicates the beginning of new chapters in life of people. It has also celebrated as a harvest festival. On this day people distributes the sweets made of Til, Jaggery, and many more.

Navratri:

Navratri is celebrated during the month of October. As the name suggests Navratri means Nine night. This festival devoted to Goddess Durga. Undoubtedly, it is popular all over India. It has celebrated with great joy and excitement as Durga Puja in the state of West Bengal. During this festival many of the people under go fasting for complete nine days, they can only have some restricted foods. Many people give up eating Non-Veg food dishes completely for nine days. This is an auspicious festival.
