Muharram Festival In India-It is one of the major festivals celebrated by the people who follow Islam religion. It is celebrated every year all over the world. This festival has some special in heart of every Muslim.

Muharram is one of the four sacred months in Islam. It is considered as the second most sacred month in Islam in which war is forbidden.

It is celebrated in entire Islamic world. All Sunni and Shia celebrate this festival.

Festivals are the major sources through which people bring joy, happiness, excitement in their life.

Festivals are also a major source through which people share and remember their culture, tradition, customs, heritage, and the atrocities happened on them.

Human beings had their passed on their culture, tradition, custom from one generation to another successfully.

Every festival gives us the message to follow truth, faith, live with honesty. It gives us the message of victory of good over evil.

Festival gives us the positive message that how- ever strong might be the evil, wrong it cannot sustain in front of goodness, faith, trust, and devotion.

Muharram And Its Importance:

In every religion, martyrdom has the highest place. Every martyr who fought for truth and righteousness will receive a high place in heaven.

Muharram is the first month in the Islamic calendar. It is also the new- year in Islam Religion.

Islam is the second most religion with billions of followers.
Muharram is celebrated in all Islamic countries. Arab countries and it is also a festival in many other countries. Such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal, France, the United Kingdom, and others.

The tenth day of Muharram is popular as the Day of Ashura. It is the day which is to mark and symbolize the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Husayn ibn Ali and his companions in the battle of Karbala.

Beliefs About Muharram

On this day many Shia and Sunni Muslim people undergo partial fasting. And Fasting respectively from sunrise to sunset. And they mourn his death and the atrocities in the battle of Karbala.

Husayn ibn Ali is one of the most important personalities in Islam; he is the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, and the son of the prophet’s daughter Bibi Fatima and Hazrat Imam Ali.

Shia Muslims recites the book of Ziyarat, the Ziyarat of Ashura is about Imam Huasyn.

The battle of Karbala is a fierce battle that was between Imam Husayn and Yazid.

This was completely an unequal battle as there were only 72 followers from part of Imam Husayn. And on the other hand, there were thousands of soldiers on part of Yazid.

The people of Kufa were supporters of Imam Ali and they extend their support to Imam Husayn too.

Imam Hussayn received letters from them to over throw the governor of Kufa, Husayn replied them with positive reply and sent his cousin Muslim ibn Aqil to kufa.

Since he was successful in gathering large support. But the political scenario was different in Kufa and Muslim ibn Aqil was already ask to support and later died.

But Husayn was unaware of this he sent another messenger. However, he was unable to gain support.

Early History :

Meanwhile, Husayn was forced to move towards the plans of Karbala with his followers and his family. Where he faced a huge army of Yazid who had declared him the caliph of the entire Islam world.

In this battle from the 7th to 10th day of Muharram Husayn and his followers were deprived of drinking water too. Moreover, they were not able to take water for their children, women, elderly people, or even for themselves too.

Though Imam Husayn did not win. And gave his life in the Battle of Karbala. He set an example of supreme sacrifice, he stood against the wrong till his last breath.

Imam Husayn opposed the supremacy. And the conditions of Yazid were not right. However, as a result, he fought a war and we knew the result and outcome of the war.

Since he fought with extreme valor even after knowing that it is impossible for him to win over the huge and mighty army of Yazid.

On the other hand Yazid become a symbol of cruelty, evilness though he won the war.

The fact was that Prophet Muhammad was well aware of the sacrifice of his Grandsons .

He used to kiss Imam Hasan on his throat and Imam Husayn on his head. Imam Hasan was poisoned and Imam Husayn was beheaded in the battle of Karbala.

Since Imam Husayn is given the status of the Prince of Martyrs (Sayyed al-Shuhada).

This is a very important event in Islam religion, it has many outcomes, and it draws a deep connection with the feelings of every Muslim

Conclusion :

However, muslim whether they are Sunni, or Shia does not matter.

On this day people remember the supreme sacrifice of Imam Husayn and his companions and mourns their deaths as Islam lost many gems during this period.

They offer prayers in name of Imam Husayn, recites Quaran, and the book of Ziyarath, perform various religious and spiritual activities and many more.
