INDEPENDENCE DAY Celebration In India- Independence day is celebrated on 15th August every year. India got its Independence after a long struggle on 15th August 1947. At present India is the largest democracy and 7th largest country in the world. Its military power stands at 4th position all over the world.

India shares a rich and magnificent culture, tradition, wealth from thousands of years. It was a host country to have one of the oldest civilizations named The Indus Valley Civilization.

India was under various dynasties depending upon the region. Some of the most important are Maurya, Gupta, Shatavahana, Chola, Chalukya, Rashtrakuta, Pallava, Parmaras, Pratiharas, Ganga, Kadamba, Vijayanagara Empire, Delhi Sultanate, Mughal, Bahmani Kingdom, Rajput, and Marathas.

All of these dynasties might be different from each other. They might have ruled in different regions, in different periods. But they did not plunder the wealth of India and sent it to some other foreign nation.

Many dynasties were ruled by Hindus, Muslims, Jains, Sikhs, Marathas, Rajput, and others all considered this land as the motherland. And contributed to the development of this country.

In a country where numerous cultures, traditions had been blended. This had gained a new color of patriotism, might also have differences. But no one will differ in one thing that is the sense. That the foreign rule had been oppressive, violent, injustice, and had taken back the country to back in ages and face a complete blackout. It had destroyed the country from within, it had increased illiteracy, poverty, economic backwardness, and other ill effects.

There were only few positive things when compared to the numerous of ill effects that India had faced. India is a powerful nation but it had never attacked any neighboring country.

In India, we celebrate two types of festivals.

Traditional / Religious Festivals

National Festivals

Traditional Festivals include Ramadan, Bakrid, Ganesh Chaturthi, Krishna Janmashtami, Christmas, Good Friday, Easter, Sankranti, MahaShivratri, EidMilad and many more.

The colonization of this beautiful and amazing country was first by the Portuguese. After the fall of Constantinople, many European countries felt the necessity to find another route. However, many Asian countries as Constantinople was rule by the Byzantine Empire (Ottoman Turks) and many counties were not able to meet their demands.

Early History of India

Sea route to India was by a Portuguese Voyager Vasco da Gama in the year 1498. This led to various possibilities of trade with India. After some time Portuguese started colonizing India and looted the country. This was by Dutch, British, and French.

Portuguese and Dutch were almost drawn out from the race with the arrival of the British East India Company in 1600; Later French East India Company in 1664. Now the game was between these two. However, after series of wars British East India Company was victorious.

It won in Battle of Plessey and Battle of Buxar against mighty Indian armies with a large number of soldiers. Under the leadership of Robert Clive and prove that it was no longer just a trading company.

Then by hook or by crook it gained controlled of whole country. In some place in used its fear, some places its strength, some places betray, and in some places its diplomacy.

In 1857 it faced huge resistance due to its Doctrine of Lapse policy. As according to it the company itself will take directly under the kingdom.

Peshwa Nana Saheb, MangalPandey, Bahadur Shah Zafar2, Tatya Tope, Rani Lakshmi bai, Rao Sahib, Nawab of Banda, JhalkariBai, and many others. Since they played a prominent role in this battle of the First war of Indian Independence.

This ended the company’s rule and India came under the direct rule of the queen. This war also awakened the feelings of nationalism among many Indians and paved a way for struggle for country’s Independence.

After a struggle of over a century India got its Independence 15 August 1947. This period saw a lot of atrocities, blood -shed, in human activities, deaths, sacrifices and many more.

India’s Struggle for Independence:

Indian Freedom Fighters like Bhagath Singh, Chandrasekhar Azad, Raj Guru, Sukhdev, Ram Prasad Bismil, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, SardarVallabhai Patel, Ashfaqullah Khan, BalGangadharTilak, Subhash Chandra Bose and many other numerous played a very important role.

Also, These people did not care about their life. However sacrificed it to give us this free nation in which we live. Indeed this is a special day for which our generations had strived for.

On this day we remember the sacrifices done by these people. And pass on this immense history to our future generations with great pride and honor. We should not forget these national heroes at any cost.

In India Independence day is not less than a day of festival. The ill effects of colonization were not suffered by India only there are many countries and all these countries celebrate their Independence Day with great pleasure and joy.

 Finally an era of colonization had ended and for many countries it was like a new birth, and its people can breathe air in a free country.
