Friendship Day-A Day to cherish the bond of friends

It is a day that occurs annually on 1st August every year. It is also popular as International Friendship Day. This is a special day in the life of every friend. It is a very special day on which friends express their feelings, gratitude, and friendship to each other.

The idea of celebrating was first proposed in 1958 in Paraguay. However, it is popular in many countries though there is no national holiday for its celebration.

Friendship is a special relation, which we build on our own in this world. We human beings cannot decide where we will be born, for whom we will be born, where, when will we born, or what our caste and religion be. But Friendship is that relation which we develop over time.

This is widely celebrated in India, the USA, Pakistan, many European and American countries. Now a day the popularity of Friendship Day had increased rapidly due to the widespread use of many social media platforms.

The rise of many digital communications such as Mobile, various messaging apps, and many more had made it easy for the spread of new and special days that spreads positivity in the life of human beings.

History for the celebration of Friendship Day:

The idea of celebrating was first originated in the mind of Joyce Hall. He was the founder of Hallmark cards in 1930. Due to this people used to celebrate their friendships by giving greeting cards to each other.

This beautiful and amazing practice was encouraged, promoted as well by Greeting Card National Association in the period of early 1920s. But it was not an easy task, as this move met with resistance from numerous consumers.

However, in the 20th century, this world had witnessed many violent things including World War1, World War 2. Including the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Cold War, Indo-Pak Wars, Indo-China War, Vietnamese War, and other events.

Due to all these reasons celebration of Friendship Day, and many other days was forgotten by this world. This world wanted someone who can revive the celebration of all these amazing and beautiful days.

In honor of Friendship Day in 1998, Nane Annan named Winnie the Pooh as the World’s Ambassador of Friendship Day at the United Nations.

Celebration of Friendship Day:

Celebration of Friendship Day varies depending upon the country. However, in many American and European countries, many friends acknowledge each other with various gifts. Whereas in countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and many Asian countries gifting of Friendship Bands, and Greeting Cards is widely popular. This practice is widely popular in these countries.

However, the celebration of Friendship Day on an International level as International Friendship Day was first proposed by Dr. Ramon ArtemioBracho on 20th July 1958.

Celebration of Friendship Day differs in many countries.

  • In Argentina, Brazil, Spain, and Uruguay it is on 20th July.
  • In India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore, and UAE it is on the first Sunday of August every year.
  • Bolivia, it is celebrated on 23rd July.
  • In Ecuador, Mexico, and Venezuela it is celebrated on 14th February.
  • In Estonia and Finland, it is on 14th February.
  • Paraguay is celebrated on 30th July.
  • In Peru, it is celebrated on the first Saturday in July.
  • In the USA it is celebrated on 15th February.

Meaning of Friends and the definition of Friendship Day can be different for all of us. It depends upon our choices, our likes, and dislikes. However, but all of us will agree that friends fill colors in our lives. They always bring newness to our life.

However, over the period of time a person whom we met as complete stranger, becomes important and an integral part of our lives. They sometimes can understand us better.
